According to Deadline, Fry and 16-year-old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan are "possible participants" in the two-part fantasy epic. Fry previously worked with Jackson to write a screenplay for a Dam Busters remake, while Ronan led the cast of the director's Lovely Bones adaptation.
Bill Nighy is said to be in the running to provide the voice of dragon Smaug, and the previously mentioned James Nesbitt and David Tennant are still under consideration for parts.
Warner Bros yesterday confirmed the main cast for The Hobbit, which includes UK TV stars Martin Freeman (Sherlock), Richard Armitage (Spooks), Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders).
The two movies, to be produced by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Carolynne Cunningham, are scheduled for release in December 2012 and December 2013.
