Steve Coogan has admitted that the planned Alan Partridge film is still only in the early stages.

Speaking to ShortList, Coogan said that he is currently exchanging ideas with Armando Iannucci about a feature film for the hapless TV and radio host.

"Armando and I are engaged in it right now, but all it is at the moment is emails going back and forth discussing what it is," Coogan said. "It's going forward slowly."

Coogan, who can next be seen with Rob Brydon in BBC Two comedy The Trip, said that an appearance from Brydon in a Partridge movie is "unlikely, but not impossible".

"I've got a new show reel that I'd love you to see," Brydon quipped.

The Partridge character, created by Coogan, Iannucci, Richard Herring and Stewart Lee, will be revived for a series of web-episodes on the Fosters Funny website from November 5.
