Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice) is to make his U.S. directorial debut with a remake of 1944 thriller Gaslight, Variety reports.
Itself based on a play by Patrick Hamilton, the original starred Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman, with the latter winning an Oscar for her performance. It told the story of a woman who is lured to a house of horrors by a suitor with an eye on her money in the hope that she will slowly be driven mad.
Abi Morgan will write the new screenplay, whilst Paula Weinstein will produce.
