Dorff revealed that he found it very difficult to land a part in anything until he was cast in Sofia Coppola's upcoming film Somewhere - at which point he became inundated with offers.
He told Total Film: "It's just funny how fickle Hollywood is. Two years ago, I was losing all these parts to guys I won't mention.
"Now I'm getting all these parts and Somewhere hasn't even come out yet. It's very strange. But I've been doing this so long, it doesn't surprise me."
He went on to say that he is not taking anything for granted and fully expects his current popularity to die down again.
"I'm ready for whatever happens," he added. "Anything that happens with this film, the excitement around it, is the icing on the cake."
Somewhere is released in the US on December 22, and in the UK on March 4, 2011.
