According to Production Weekly, the studio wants director Ivan Reitman to shoot the third instalment in the comedy series in May.
Ghostbusters 3, the first movie in the series since 1989's sequel, will see the original cast hand over the reins to a new group of spirit-catchers.
Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are expected to return, while Bill Murray has voiced his concerns about returning. However, the actor recently donned a Ghostbusters outfit for the Spike TV Scream Awards, hinting that he could reprise his role as Peter Venkman.
Aykroyd and Ramis, who penned the first two Ghostbusters, are currently reworking a script from The Office duo Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.
