The character has long been thought of as Peter Parker's main romance following the untimely death of his first girlfriend Gwen Stacy in a controversial storyline in 1973.
However, according to The Wrap, the character is not featured in the film's screenplay.
Emma Stone was recently cast in the movie in a role initially believed to be Mary Jane, but it was later confirmed that she will play Gwen Stacy, seemingly confirming Mary Jane's absence.
It was yesterday announced that Martin Sheen is in final negotiations for the part of Uncle Ben, while Sally Field is in the early stages of signing on to play Aunt May.
The currently untitled reboot of Spider-Man is scheduled for a release date of July 3, 2012.
