'Munich' enjoys strong opening in Israel

Steven Spielberg's controversial film about the Israeli reaction to the massacre of eleven of their athletes by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Olympic Games has enjoyed a strong opening at Israel's box office.

Despite not finding much favour with the nation's movie critics, Munich attracted 25,000 cinema-goers in its first week, yielding around £60,000.

Globus Group's Dorit Ishay told Variety: "It's exceeded our expectations. It's a public interest issue. It is already the talk of the day."
