According to Bleeding Cool, a press release confirms Evans as having been cast as original Supremes lead singer Florence Ballard, who was eventually replaced in the group.
Blondie will be helmed by Honey director Bille Woodruff, with the screenplay, written by Karen Spencer and Roy Fegan, inspired by Peter Benjaminson's book The Lost Supreme.
Ballard tragically died at the age of 32 in 1976 of cardiac arrest while attempting to restart her solo career.
Evans previously appeared in the 2003 musical film The Fighting Temptations as the mother of Cuba Gooding Jr's character.
