Ross has directed only two features before, Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, reports Collider. Though Ross has been in talks for the role of director for a few months, Variety officially revealed that he had been offered the job this past week.
The Hunger Games is set a post-apocalyptic future. It tells the story of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen who must compete to the death against 23 other children in the annual reality show called the Hunger Games.
Suzanne Collins, author of the novel, will reportedly adapt her own book with the help of Billy Ray (Breach).
Widely hailed as the next Twilight, The Hunger Games is expected to be released in 2013.
