The King's Speech director Tom Hooper has described the drama's US promotional poster as "a train smash".

Hooper hit out at the design off the artwork in a recent interview with Movieline, saying that it will be replaced quickly and not seen in cinema lobbies.

"I hate it. I hate it. And it is not going to ever be on any cinema walls. It will be replaced. It's a train smash. It's a train smash," Hooper said of the poster.

Asked why The Weinstein Company studio released the picture, the British director replied: "Oh, I don't know. Like everything in life, everyone has good intentions. No-one sets out to do that."

The King's Speech, starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, opens in the US on November 26 and January 7 in the UK.
