Renner 'wasn't offered Escape role'

Jeremy Renner has reportedly not been offered the lead role in the Escape from New York remake.

Several outlets reported last week that Renner had been linked to the character of Snake Plissken, played by Kurt Russell in the original film.

However, The Wrap reports that Renner was not offered the part, and the movie's producers are yet to begin casting the project.

Renner previously signed to appear with Tom Cruise in the next Mission: Impossible, and he will star as Hawkeye in Marvel's forthcoming Avengers film.

Escape from New York is expected to premiere in 2012.
