The film will be titled The Wolverine, and will not be a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
He told Hitfix that the movie will be a "one-off", and not related to the Gavin Hood-directed film.
The story will revolve around the title character starting a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman who is already promised to another man. He then finds himself in a battle with her father and samurai brothers.
