Luhrmann spoke to Deadline about the upcoming film, revealing that he is still uncertain if it will be his next project.
"There are a few elements that I feel need to be resolved before I would categorically state that this is my next film," Luhrmann said.
However, he admitted to having finally cast the role of Daisy Buchanan.
Luhrmann explained: "Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan... I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her, 'Hello, Daisy Buchanan.'"
Mulligan joins Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as the narrator Nick Carraway.
