Mark Wahlberg has stepped up to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in drama We Own the Night, reports Variety.
Written and directed by Phoenix's The Yards director James Gray, the film is set during a struggle between Gotham cops and Russian gangsters. It follows nightclub manager Joseph's efforts to save his brother and father who are on a hitlist of the Russian narcotics gang targeting NYPD officers.
Shooting begins in New York in March.
