Walden Media, Beacon Pictures and Revolution Studios are joining forces to adapt The Water Horse into a combined live-action and CGI film.

Robert Nelson Jacobs (The Shipping News) will convert Dick King-Smith's story to screenplay for Jay Russell to direct.

The movie will tell the tale of a boy who finds a mysterious egg in Scotland, from which emerges a water horse, a mythical creature of Scottish legend.

The author's book The Sheep Pig found its way to screen in the form of Babe in 1995.
