Gareth Edwards details 'Monsters' follow-up
Published Wednesday, Dec 1 2010, 11:58 GMT | By Simon Reynolds
Monsters director Gareth Edwards has revealed details about his Hollywood collaboration with Wanted filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov.
Edwards told Digital Spy that the tagline for the upcoming sci-fi project is "an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity".
"Timur has been very supportive [of Monsters], his company actually bought the film for Russia," he said. "He is producing and financing for me to develop a film I told him I wanted to do next. He really liked it and wanted to make it, too. It's a science fiction."
Discussing inspirations for the project, Edwards said: "I'm always inspired by the films of the late '70s, early '80s in terms of the tone and flavour of the science fiction. I'm not a big fan of the modern popcorn movies, the style of them is really over-the-top."
He continued: "I really love Star Wars, Close Encounters, E.T., Back To The Future - I kind of want to hark back to that."
