Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight that she is nervous about becoming one of the few women to ever host the ceremony.
"I found out that I'm one of three women to host since... I think it was 1987," she said. "Maybe I'm the fourth, I'm not sure."
The actress added: "I'm still learning all the amazing statistics that I almost don't want to know because it gets a little bit too intimidating."
The first Academy Awards ceremony was held in 1929 and was hosted by actor Douglas Fairbanks and screenwriter William C. deMille.
In the ensuing years, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Goldie Hawn, Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin have helmed the event.
The 83rd annual Academy Awards will take place on February 27, 2011.
