Speaking to Access Hollywood at the New York City premiere of Black Swan, Ryder stated that the rivalry that develops in the film between two ballerinas is similar to the way that actresses are sometimes pit against one another in Hollywood as they grow older.
"It's parallel to a lot of things, you know - getting older in Hollywood, getting older in the ballet world," she said.
The star continued: "[The] ballet world is more brutal in the sense that your career is sort of over when you're very young and in Hollywood at least you can sort of maybe go on you know, but it's definitely a lot of parallels."
Black Swan is released on December 3 in US cinemas and January 21 in UK cinemas.
