The actor told MTV News that he has had no serious negotiations to join the film's cast.
"I wish that I was [in it]. It's all rumour," he said. "I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason, but I think there was some things that happened and I don't know if I'm gonna get to do it."
Rudd joked that he hopes to appear in a sequel if the forthcoming Muppets movie proves to be successful.
He jested: "I'm hoping for the Muppet Movie 2. I'm playing Charles Grodin in Muppet 2: Electric Waterloo? Beaker-loo?"
The Muppets is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2011 in US cinemas.
