Deadline reports that Weinstein, who co-founded his former company Miramax and current studio The Weinstein Co., will make an unprecedented personal appearance in front of the Movie Picture Association of America (MPAA) to attempt to reduce Blue Valentine's rating to a more audience-friendly R certificate.
"Usually just my lawyers do the appeals, but this time I'm going to," he said.
However, Weinstein acknowledged that his studios had only won a handful of the rating challenges it had fought in the past.
Previously, Blue Valentine's star Michelle Williams said that she hoped the film would remain an NC-17 release.
