The pair, along with Hader's Saturday Night Live co-star Will Forte, were recently linked to roles as next-generation Ghostbusters in the comedy sequel.
The film's co-writer and star Dan Aykroyd apparently later confirmed that they were "strong possibilities" for the cast.
Faris told MakingOf that she hadn't been approached about the movie, saying: "I don't even know what I'd do in it. Gatekeeper? Keymaster?"
Hader, meanwhile, revealed to The Playlist that he also hasn't been contacted about a role: “I went online and was like, 'Woah! Cool!' All my friends were calling, 'Are you gonna be in Ghostbusters 3?' I obviously am very flattered, but I don’t know anything about it."
