According to Tokyograph, the son of Spirited Away director Hayao Miyazaki is to direct an adaptation of the 1980 manga series Kokurikozaka Kara.
Created by Tetsuro Sayama and Chizuru Takahashi, the series has never been translated into English and has only received a limited release outside of Japan.
"For a director, your second work is important, because your true measure is shown," Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuku said following the announcement.
Goro's first film, Tales from Earthsea, was released in 2006 after a highly publicised fallout with his father over his choice to direct a film on his own.
Kokurikozaka Kara is tentatively scheduled for release in summer 2011.
