Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) has signed up to write and direct fact-based drama Bombing Harvey.
The film will tell the true story of a millionaire who attempted to cover his gambling losses by planting a bomb and extorting a casino for $3 million. John Birges' attempt took place in 1980, but was ended when the authorities detonated the device, destroying Harvey's Resort Hotel in the process.
The man's son, John Birges Jr., helped his father to gather dynamite for his plot but ultimately turned him in. Birges Jr. will participate in the making of the film, Variety reports.
