James Mangold will remake 1957 Western 3:10 To Yuma as a follow-up to his acclaimed Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line.
Based on a short story by Elmore Leonard, the original starred Glenn Ford and Van Heflin, telling the tale of a sheriff's struggle to bring an outlaw to justice.
The director told Variety of his version: "There are a lot of good-bad themes that were only touched on in the original. A lot of Westerns are meditative, but this is a total struggle culminating in a showdown, which has the potential to be one of the great movie gunfights."
Mangold will produce the movie alongside his wife Cathy Konrad.
