The Beaver will receive a limited release beginning in March next year before launching nationwide the following month.
Plans to release the film in 2010 were put on hold following the controversy Gibson has faced in his personal life.
Directed by actress Jodie Foster, the movie follows the CEO of a toy company, played by Gibson, who begins a voyage of self-discovery after deciding to communicate solely through a beaver puppet.
The Beaver will begin its limited run on March 23, 2011 following which it will be released across the US on April 8.
