According to the Los Angeles Times, the pair are pitching a new movie to independent financiers. Kaufman will write the script and Jonze is attached to direct.
The duo previously collaborated on quirky films Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Jonze also produced Kaufman’s directorial debut Synecdoche, N.Y..
The new film’s plot is being kept under wraps.
Kaufman has another project in the works at Sony, a script called Frank or Francis, billed as a Hollywood satire in musical form. However, it has been reported that the project is not currently moving forward at the studio.
Kaufman also wrote Human Nature and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, both directed by Michel Gondry, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, directed by George Clooney.
Jonze, who has directed several music videos for The Beastie Boys, Pavement and Bjork among others, also helmed 2009’s Where the Wild Things Are.
