Jack Black has revealed details about his role in The Muppets.

The comedy star told Entertainment Weekly that he will play himself in a "cerebral and meta" cameo appearance.

He said: “I will be playing myself. It's kind of like Being John Malkovich. It is a new twist on the Muppets. Very cerebral and meta.”

Black added that he was invited to appear in the movie by star and co-writer Jason Segel after the pair worked together on Gulliver's Travels.

"It is a little tit for tat,” he commented. “I gave him a gig in Gulliver’s and he said, 'Wanna come do a little something for me and the Muppets?' I'm very excited. I'm going to shoot [it] in January. I better read the script. It's time to get ready and memorise.”

The Muppets will be the first big screen outing for the Jim Henson characters since 1999's Muppets From Space. The movie opens on November 23, 2011 in the US and February 17, 2012 in the UK.
