David Dobkin has stepped down from his directing role for Universal Pictures' I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, Variety reports.
The studio announced the project earlier this month, describing its plot as a reworking of the La Cage aux Folles concept, with two straight firemen masquerading as a gay married couple in order to qualify for domestic partner benefits.
Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) was named director, with Adam Sandler and Kevin James to star. However, the director quit the venture on Wednesday, by his account as a result of creative differences, though Universal has denied any such differences.
The studio seeks to find a replacement for Dobkin with a view to begin filming in August.
Alexander Payne (Sideways) and James Taylor wrote the script. Tom Shadyac, Michael Bostick and Jack Giarraputo are producing.
