'Batman Begins' / Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Pictures has begun planning follow-ups to Batman Begins and Superman Returns, reports Variety.

The studio has picked up Jonathan Nolan to write the script for the Batman project, with his brother Chris expected to reprise directorial duties. Meanwhile, Returns' Bryan Singer is also expected to helm the follow-up in the Superman series after he directs the studio's remake of Logan's Run.

If all runs smoothly, Batman could next hit screens is 2008, with Superman flying by in 2009.
