Foster, who was most recently seen in 2008's Nim's Island, will star in the film alongside Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team) and Matt Damon, reports Deadline.
Foster's role in Elysium remains uncertain as any plot details regarding the film have yet to be released. All that is known is that Elysium takes place on a distant planet in the future, according to MTV News.
Foster has also committed to starring in the biopic My Stroke of Genius as scientist Jill Bolte Taylor and in Roman Polanski's God of Carnage alongside John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz and Kate Winslet.
Elysium is expected to open in theatres in 2013.
