The actor, who portrayed villain Justin Hammer in last summer's blockbuster Iron Man 2, told Empire that he believes he would make a "great" comic book hero.
He said: "I'd love to play a superhero. I know it'd take some doing to convince some people, but I think I'd be a great one."
The 42-year-old added that he has already played Batman in the spoof short film Robin's Big Date.
"I've played Batman, but I've never had superpowers and I'd love to get some. It's about time."
Rockwell was reportedly in the running to play Tony Stark in Iron Man before Robert Downey Jr. was cast in the role.
