January Jones has admitted that she had reservations about playing X-Men: First Class character Emma Frost.

The Mad Men star told the Los Angeles Times that she was initially reluctant to sign up for the mutant role because the prequel film's storyline takes place in the same decade as her AMC show.

"When I heard that this instalment of X-Men was going to take place in the '60s I was like, 'Oh my God, you must be kidding me!'" Jones said. “But I read the script and familiarised myself with the character of Emma Frost. She’s so, so far from Betty and from Mad Men, and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie."

Jones added that Frost's skimpy costumes in the Marvel comics books left her feeling intimidated.

"It's a lot of very body-conscious stuff," she commented. "If you look at the comic book, she’s barely dressed. She’s got quite the bod, which is very intimidating."

X-Men: First Class will open in cinemas this summer.
