Slovakian officials concerned over 'Hostel'

Slovakian officials have expressed concern over brutal horror film Hostel.

The film's storyline shows backpackers falling prey to a brutal Slovakian female torture ring. It was executive produced by Quentin Tarantino and was shown unedited in Slovakia.

Slovakian newspaper SME says the film shows the country as "backward...where our beautiful young girls are the lowest whores."

MP Tomas Galbavy, who is a member of the parliamentary culture committee, said: "I am offended by this film. I think that all Slovaks should feel offended. [It is a] monstrosity that does not at all reflect reality [and it will] damage the good reputation of Slovakia".

Director Eli Roth said he wanted to show how little Americans know about the rest of the world.

"Americans do not even know that this country exists," he added. "My film is not a geographical work but aims to show Americans' ignorance of the world around them."
