According to the Associated Press, a "very good script" for the third film has been sent to series star Bill Murray to read.
The report claims that although Murray has yet to read it, Reitman believes that the script is exactly what they have been looking for.
The director, who helmed the first two films in the Ghostbusters series, is also known for family comedies such as Twins and Junior.
Production on a third Ghostbusters film has been in various stages of development since the release of Ghostbusters 2 back in 1989, but several issues have previously stopped the project getting underway.
