Ashton Kutcher has explained that he tried to take a detached approach to filming sex scenes for No Strings Attached.

Speaking to The Insider, Kutcher revealed that he was determined not to worry about shooting the movie's erotic sequences with Natalie Portman.

"At a certain point you just let it flow … It becomes really technical," he said.

The actor added: "The towel is your best friend, man. You can't go wrong with a good towel. I was sort of requesting a bigger towel [for one significant scene], but they left me with a hand towel."

His co-star Portman added that she was most concerned with ensuring that the film's love scenes retained the humour that informs director Ivan Reitman's romantic comedy.

"We obviously had to do stuff that could be really awkward, and when you just know that the person there won't overstep boundaries, you can just play and be silly together," she explained.

Kutcher previously suggested that he was eager to join the cast of No Strings Attached so he could work with Portman for the very first time.

No Strings Attached is released on January 21 in US cinemas.
