Colin Farrell has said that the Total Recall remake will be "quite different" from the original film.

The actor is reportedly attached to star in the update, directed by Underworld helmer Len Wiseman.

When asked by MTV if he was going to appear in the project, Farrell said: "I hope so. I think so. Yeah, I think so. Maybe in May."

Of whether the remake will be similar to the 1990 original starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, he explained: "It is... no, not really. That's quite different."

The movie is based on the 1966 short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale by Philip K. Dick.

Farrell added: "This is going back to the original short story. It's closer to the original short story."
