The actor plays real-life trapped hiker Aron Ralston in Danny Boyle's movie and depicts the moment when Ralston was forced to sever his own arm to get free.
Franco told Metro: "Actually, I'm okay with watching the arm-cutting scene.
"I am a little sensitive about seeing blood on my arm, or having blood drawn for check-ups and stuff like that, but I have been completely fine every time I watch the movie."
He added: "Acting in isolation for the majority of the film is very unusual. When Tom Hanks did it for Castaway he had the whole island to walk around on. I was in a single place.
"Then to have Danny Boyle take on a challenge like that, where the character doesn't move, and to try to make an incredibly dynamic movie... it's the kind of project you dream about."
