Stephen Dorff did 'Somewhere' for mother

Stephen Dorff has said that he pursued the lead role in Somewhere as a tribute to his mother.

Speaking to The AP, the actor revealed that his mother - who died a year before he won the part - always wanted him to play someone with heart.

In the film, the 37-year-old portrays a hard-partying actor who changes his lifestyle when his young daughter comes to live with him.

The star explained that he "felt my mum with me for the first time in a year that was pretty dark and pretty empty" when director Sofia Coppola confirmed his role.

Dorff stars as Britney Spears's boyfriend in her new music video 'Everytime'.
