Dynasty creator Richard Shapiro has revealed that the series will soon get a big screen adaptation.

Speaking to E! Online, Shapiro explained that the film would serve as a prequel to the 1970s TV show - which focused on the wealthy Carrington family - and would hopefully be the first in a franchise.

"It was my daughter Florie's notion to do a prequel, and that sounded very, very good to us," he said.

"It's how young Blake doesn't realise he's the son of Tom Carrington, but then he finds himself at the head of this company and surrounded by assassins and people who want to do him in."

Shapiro went on to say that while no script has been written and casting has not begun, the project is well under way.

"We've given thought to the movie before and we've been approached by a lot of companies, but no-one seemed to have a proper fix on it," he explained.

"Then suddenly we said, 'Let's do it [ourselves]!' - and we're the ones to do it."
