Published Thursday, Mar 2 2006, 09:40 GMT | By Daniel Saney
The Weinstein Co. is producing a biopic based on the fictitious life of non-existent author J.T. Leroy, Variety reports.

The film is based on three articles written by Warren St. John for the New York Times in which he discussed Leroy, who was supposedly a HIV-positive male prostitute turned literary phenomenon. However, last month in emerged that Leroy was in fact a creation of writer and musician Laura Albert. It was St. John who helped to reveal the hoax.

Jesse Peretz (The Chateau) will direct from a script by Captain Mauzner.
