The former Ghost Whisperer star has announced that she will direct an adaptation of the ghost story Wait Till Helen Comes by writer Mary Downing Hahn.
Hewitt is also producing the project through her company Fedora Films, alongside Just Believe Productions.
The film already has a completed script, which tells the story of a 12-year-old girl haunted by the ghost of a young child.
Wait Till Helen Comes will be the first time that Hewitt has directed a full-length feature, although she helmed a number of episode segments during her time on The Ghost Whisperer.
There is currently no announced release date for the project.
