The Harry's Crime star explained that the Oscar-winning director took a huge "leap of faith" by selecting him for her 1991 film Point Break, which paved the way for his later success as an action hero.
"Point Break was one of those wonderful surprises," he stated. "I hear it wasn't such an easy sell for Kathryn. Her saying, 'No, really, he can be an action guy. No, really'.
"It was such a leap of faith. Thank you, Kathryn! You changed my life!"
Reeves also spoke highly of filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci, who in 1992 cast him in spiritual drama Little Buddha and helped restore the 46-year-old's credibility following his turn in the Bill & Ted franchise.
He said: "When Bertolucci called, well, that was a nice day. Yes, indeed. I've had a couple of breaks, which is what we all need. You know, we're just dust in the wind, after all."
