According to The Hollywood Reporter, backers Media Rights Capital (MRC) cancelled all meeting they had scheduled with the major studios this week once Sony made their bid for Blomkamp's big-budget science fiction movie.
Sony distributed the South African director's Oscar-nominated debut District 9, which grossed more than $200 million worldwide on a modest $35 million budget.
Elysium, starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley, will open in 2012.
