Con Air director Simon West has revealed that he wants to make a sequel to the '90s blockbuster.

The filmmaker, whose new movie The Mechanic opens in cinemas on Friday, told Crave Online that he is hoping to convince star Nicolas Cage to make the follow-up with him.

"It'd be great. It's a matter of getting everybody together," said West. "There's so many people involved and it's about getting everybody to agree. But I'm going to bring it up to Nic. I'm going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we'll go after the others."

The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Con Air centres on an ex-con on board a prisoner transport plane of which the passengers take control. John Cusack, John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi also starred in the action movie, which took more than $200 million at the worldwide box office.
