Jason Segel has insisted that producing and starring in the upcoming film The Muppets has been a "dream come true".

Pop Sugar quotes the Freaks And Geeks actor as saying that he's enjoyed the process of bringing Jim Henson's Muppets back to the big screen.

"We've got a month left, and I just couldn't be prouder, and I feel like I've tricked everybody," he said.

The star continued: "We've got several people who worked with Meryl Streep on this movie. More than one Oscar winner. It's really insane, and so to watch people I admire sing and dance and play with puppets - it really, truly, is a dream come true."

Billy Crystal, Lady GaGa, Ricky Gervais and Jack Black are all rumoured to be making cameo appearances in The Muppets.

Segel further explained that his film will reference the three previous Muppets movies as a nod to the franchise's past.

"The original pantheon for me is The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, and The Muppets Take Manhattan. So we do have some references to those three. But it definitely is a late '70s-, early '80s-style tome, set in the modern day," he noted.

The Muppets is currently scheduled to be released on November 23 in US cinemas and on February 17, 2012 in the UK.
