Javier Bardem offered 'Dark Tower' lead?

Javier Bardem has been offered the lead role in the upcoming film and television adaptation of The Dark Tower, according to sources.

The Oscar-winning actor is wanted to play gunslinger Roland Deschain in Universal Pictures and NBC's production of Stephen King's epic novel and comic book series.

Deadline goes on to report that formal negotiations with Bardem are not yet under way, but that there is a "high level of enthusiasm" that the 41-year-old will take on the part.

The project will be spread out over the course of three big-screen movies with two television seasons in between. Ron Howard is attached to direct and produce, and Akiva Goldsman is on board as the writer.

Bardem recently picked up an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the Spanish-language film Biutiful.
