Film director David O. Russell has said that he could never choose between Amy Adams and Melissa Leo at this year's Academy Awards.

Both Adams and Leo have been nominated in the 'Best Supporting Actress' category for their roles in Russell's recent film The Fighter, and the director admitted that he is glad the decision is not his choice.

"They are all like my children, my family at this point," Russell told The Hollywood Reporter. "I want them both to be rewarded for their amazing performances.

"Thankfully, it's not my choice," Russell added. "If it was, I'd be living through Sophie's Choice."

The Fighter has been nominated for seven Academy Awards overall, including 'Best Picture', 'Best Director', and 'Best Supporting Actor' for Christian Bale's role.

This year's Academy Awards ceremony is due to take place on February 27.
