Tom Hooper against 'King's Speech' cuts

Tom Hooper has admitted that he is against any cuts being made to The King's Speech.

It was recently reported that Harvey Weinstein is planning to re-edit the royal drama in order to tone down its profanity and secure a PG-13 rating when it gets re-released after the Oscars.

However, British director Hooper - who recently emerged with the top prize at the Directors Guild of America Awards - has now revealed that he does not agree with the idea.

"I wouldn't support cutting the film in any way," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I think we looked at whether it's possible to bleep out the f**ks and stuff, but I'm not going to actually cut that part. I'm not going to cut the film."

Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Queen Elizabeth in the Oscar-nominated picture, also voiced her disapproval of the idea, arguing that the film's use of strong language is not gratuitous.

She insisted: "I think every 13-year-old knows [the words]. I think every 8-year-old [does]. It's the whole point of it. It's not to be offensive. I think they said they were going to put [in] bleeps. [The film] is not violent. It's full of humanity and wit."

Hooper went on to say that no decision has been made regarding the proposed cuts.
