Michael Winterbottom's award-winning factual drama The Road to Guantánamo enjoys its Channel 4 premiere tomorrow.
Winner of the Silver Bear for Direction at the Berlin International Film Festival last month, the film tells the story of four friends who left Tipton in September 2001 destined for a wedding and holiday and Pakistan. Famously, three of them returned home two and a half years later after being caught up in the effects on the war on terror and incarcerated in Cuba for two years.
Comprising a mixture of news interviews with the men, news archive material and recreations of their experience, the drama was filmed in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Tessa Ross, the channel's Head of Film and Drama, commented: “The Road to Guantánamo is reflective of exactly the kind of ambitious and challenging films Channel 4 is committed to making.
"The reception the drama gained in Berlin was immense and it felt hugely gratifying to feel that this extraordinary story has been given the international platform and recognition it deserves."
The film will air tomorrow (March 9) at 21:00.
