The writer, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated 127 Hours with Boyle, is currently working on a screenplay for the free verse novel Sharp Teeth.
"It's an adaptation of a book by a writer called Toby Barlow and it's a very extraordinary mix of gangland Los Angeles," Beaufoy told BBC America. "The difference with this particular piece of work is that these gangs can shape-shift at will into packs of dogs."
When asked whether Boyle would direct the project if it came to fruition, Beaufoy simply said: "If I write it well enough, he'll direct it."
Beaufoy is best known for his screenplays for The Full Monty and Slumdog Millionaire, and is currently nominated for an Academy Award for 'Best Adapted Screenplay' for 127 Hours.
